About the Bloomington Rotary Foundation
The Bloomington Rotary Foundation (BRF) was established in 1986 in order to accept tax-exempt gifts supporting the club’s activities. Initial funding for BRF came from gifts made by club members in memory of deceased Rotarians and spouses.
In 1998, the BRF opened an endowment fund at the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County (CFBMC); BRF’s initial contribution was matched by $7,500 from the Lilly Endowment. By 2023, the endowment fund had grown to over $80,000. In 2015, BRF initiated the “80/20 Fund,” to raise funds for the club’s centennial celebration in 2018. Club members were invited to contribute $20 each quarter, a total of $80 a year. These funds, as well as a substantial gift from BRF’s operating balance and significant fund-raising efforts by past presidents of the club, raised more than $100,000. The majority of the funds went to the centennial project, a playground at the Boys & Girls Club. Some donors designated their gifts to go to the Teachers Warehouse and BRF endowments. Following the centennial, the BRF Board agreed to focus on building the endowment to sustain the club’s annual scholarship support for Monroe County high school students and Ivy Tech-Bloomington students. The BRF’s goal is to reach $200,000 by 2030. |
